Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi has said that Italian Air Force (Aeronautica Militare) will allow NATO to use 4 of its Panavia Tornado IDS (interdictor/strike) aircrafts to increase the pace of military strikes on targets beyond Moammar Gadhafi's air defence systems.
Until now, Italian Air Force had been only conducting air petrol missions to destroy Libyan early warning radar systems.
Italy is also allowing NATO forces to use of its bases and aircraft for reconnaissance, and Italian navy is also helping NATO in refueling.
Italian Air Force is participating in the NATO led operation with 12 aircrafts from the Italian Air Force. Italian Air Force is also ready to allow another 4 Panavia Tornado IDS aircrafts if NATO requires it.
