Indian navy plans to  deploy  MiG-29K on its INS Vikramaditya (former Russian Gorshkov) aircraft carrier. These new MiG-29K offer Indian navy a big jump in capabilities when compared to their current Sea harrier jump jets.

In 2004, Indian Navy signed an agreement for 12 single-seater MiG-29K fighters and 4 two-seater MiG-29KUB fighter jets. In March 2010, India placed an order for 29 additional MiG-29K fighter jets at cost of $ 1.5 billion.
